ABAN—Agent Based Active Networks for Automated Network Aware Services

ATC developed an Agent-Based Active Network (ABAN) system to provide automated and intelligent information dissemination services for more effective communications under rapidly changing warfighting environments. As an Army CECOM Phase II SBIR, its goal was to provide future military systems with scalable context-aware information services through customizable personalized agents. In an ABAN-enabled military or civilian system, intelligent agents are injected into the fixed network to carry out dynamic information adaptation that is personally tailored to the individual user's needs, adaptive to changing mobile environments including network conditions, device capabilities and user roles. The ABAN project implemented the following capabilities:

  1. Dynamic Information Access Control for efficient information assurance
  2. Session Mobility Service to support mobile forces
  3. Context-Aware Information Dissemination according to user's network and appliance characteristics, user's location and role in a mission

ABAN's personalized agents are composed on demand for customized information dissemination. ABAN provides scalable and extensible middleware architecture to accommodate large number of users and facilitate rapid implementation of new network services.
