ORIS—Object Repository with Integrated Security

ATC-NY developed ORIS, a peer-to-peer object repository suitable for the Air Force Joint Battlespace Infosphere (JBI). Self-organizing peer-to-peer networks have proven to be robust and scalable to very large numbers of nodes and objects. However, current peer-to-peer substrates are not suitable for military environments because they lack sufficient security. ORIS adds strong security to peer-to-peer technology, so that the JBI can be used to share information securely among coalition partners. ORIS also implements query processing, which enables clients to locate objects that satisfy complex queries. Both security and query processing are implemented using robust, scalable peer-to-peer techniques.

Although its primary product focus is the JBI, ORIS will also serve as a survivable foundation for commercial information-centric applications, enabling them to exploit the extensive resources currently unused on enterprise desktop computers.
